seagull-1963-black-edition-38mm
SEAGULL 1963 | Black Edition 38mm

Black case, cream dial. That is the whole difference between this and the standard Seagull 1963 in 38mm. The 316L steel case, both pump pushers and the knurled crown carry a matte black coating, and under the boxed sapphire nothing changes: the cream dial, its applied gold-tone numerals, the wedges, blued hands, a red chronograph hand and the red star over 21 ZUAN. The name refers to the case, nothing else. There is no lume and no date.

Factory-original, resold in the state it reached us from Tianjin Sea-Gull, case unopened. Inside is the hand-wound ST1901, an ST19 family column-wheel chronograph with 21 jewels, beating at 21,600 bph with about 42 hours on a full wind. It carries the blue swan neck regulator, a curved spring on the balance cock that lets a watchmaker fine-tune the rate.

Hand-wound means it runs only if you wind it. Turn the crown each morning until it stops and the day is covered. The upper pusher runs the red hand and halts it, the lower returns it to zero. The register at 3 counts the minutes, up to 30.

It comes on an 18mm black nylon NATO with a red stripe down the middle. The buckle and keepers are plain steel, stamped with a star, so they sit silver against the black case. It ships in the maker's foam-lined tin inside a navy sleeve, with the hang tag, manual and QR authenticity card. Delivery is 2 to 4 weeks.

Specifications

Diameter: 38mm

Lug to lug: 47mm

Thickness: 12.70mm

Lug width: 18mm

Case: 316L stainless steel with a matte black coating, black pump pushers, black knurled pull-out crown

Crystal: boxed sapphire

Movement: Seagull ST1901 hand-wound column-wheel chronograph (ST19 family), 21 jewels, 21,600 bph

Regulator: blue swan neck

Power reserve: about 42 hours

Chronograph: running seconds at 9, 30-minute counter at 3, red central seconds hand

Dial: cream, applied gold-tone Arabic numerals and wedge markers, blued hands, two cream subdials, no lume or date

Water resistance: 3 ATM, fine for rain and hand-washing, not for swimming

Strap: 18mm black nylon NATO with a red centre stripe, steel buckle and keepers engraved RED STAR

In the box: navy outer sleeve, foam-lined tin box, hang tag, warranty card, manual card, QR authenticity card

Delivery: 2 to 4 weeks

Common questions

Is the dial black as well?
No. Only the case is black, along with its pushers and crown. The NATO comes with plain steel hardware, a star and RED STAR stamped on the buckle. The lugs are 18mm, so a strap with black hardware is an easy swap if it bothers you.

Does it handle water?
Rain and hand-washing, yes.
